All the Colleges at Lancaster are named after regions surrounding the city. The Fylde is the area of land between the Trough of Bowland, the Ribble Valley and the Irish Sea.
The Windmill is the official logo of the college. At one point there were over 35 windmills on the Fylde coast and our residence blocks are named after villages which still have the remains of or restored windmills.
“In arvo quaerere verum” – seek truth in the field (Fylde)
The College Motto refers not only to the University motto (Patet omnibus veritas – truth lies open to all) but also to the world outside the University walls. The motto was adopted by the College in the Summer of 1981.
